Salmon Enhancement conducts an extensive outreach and education program on watershed protection. The foundation of our community education programs is Trout in the Classroom. Established 11 years ago, the program places incubator aquariums in local K-12 classrooms. Students raise fish from eggs while learning salmonid life-cycles and the importance of a healthy watershed for human and animal habitats. Our program includes more than 200 presentations in our community each year, reaching more than 5,000 students and community members annually.
Our goals for community education are to:

• Reach more than 5,000 children annually in outreach and education programs that teach about watershed protection
• Train at least 100 volunteers in other agencies and organizations about teaching and interpreting salmon and trout information, watershed protection and the individual's role in land and watershed stewardship
• Train at least 40 teachers to use the Trout in the Classroom program materials and incubators.
• Establish a Creek Ecology Lab. The lab will be technology-based and will provide students in our community with the opportunity to learn by experiencing hands-on natural resource management skills such as water monitoring, GPS/GIS technology, data collection protocols and more.
• Educate the community on the natural and economical resources provided by salmon and steelhead trout.
